Obituary

Betty Joan Kelly passed away on February 27, 2016, at Partners in Care Hospice House in Bend, Oregon at the age of 87.
Services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the LDS Chapel in Deseret, Utah. Viewing will be 9:30-10:45AM, followed by the Funeral Service starting at 11:00AM. Concluding internment will take place at the Oasis Cemetery.
Betty was born on October 23, 1928, in Deseret, Utah to Reuben Lavon Black and Juanita (Palmer) Black. She graduated from Corona High in Corona, California in 1946, and then on a visit home to Deseret, Utah she met her sweetheart James Virgil Kelly. They were married in Ely, Nevada on January 3, 1948. After Jim finished College at Weber State in Ogden, Utah, they moved to Beverly Hills, California. Jim attended the L.A. Institute of Art, and Betty worked as a supervisor at Pac Tel. (Her all-time favorite job and place to live). Next they relocated to Delta Utah, and ran their business "Kelly Service" (and she tried to run the town). They were active in the riding club, and Betty was president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #135. All three children were born in Delta; Steven Lane in 1951, Starr Elizabeth in 1953, and Saralee in 1958. The family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1969 where Betty worked as the bookkeeper for Rocky Mountain Produce for several years. She also held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Relief Society president, and served at the Las Vegas Temple. Betty lived in Las Vegas for 40 years, until she moved to Oregon, where she was close to her daughter, Sara and family, until her passing. Betty was an avid reader, loved nature, crossword puzzles, philosophical conversations, loved to write, serving others, and mostly loved her Family and dog, Frankie.
Betty is survived by her three children and their spouses, Steve and Evon Kelly, Larry and Starr Bell, Guy and Sara Berry; two brothers William and David Black; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty three great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband James, parents, sister Ila Mae, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank all of the healthcare personnel from St Charles Hospital, Bend Transitional, and Partners in Care Hospice House for the excellent care and loving treatment of Betty. This was a great blessing to mom and us.
