George Halvorsen of La Pine passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017, at the age of 87. A Memorial will be planned at a later date. His cremains will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery.

George was born in Salem, Oregon on Wednesday, December 18, 1929, to Robert and Lelia (Bowersox) Halvorsen. Shortly after graduating from Salem High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served four years during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the military, he completed the Funeral Service and Embalmer program at the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. George married Marcia Marie Moore on July 28, 1951, in Tacoma, Washington. They were blessed with two sons, Gordon and Scott, and raised them in Gresham, Oregon.

George was the Board Chairman for nine years of Gresham United Methodist Church; a Life Member and past Grand Master of Gresham Lodge #152; past President of the Optimist Club in Gresham; past President of South Salem Kiwanis Club; past member of Gresham BPOE; life member of Christino Court #8; past Royal Patron of the Order of Amoranth; and involved with the White Shrine of Oregon #1. George was the founder and operator of Autumn Chapel Funeral Service in Gresham. He retired to La Pine, Oregon in 1990 where he had more free time to pursue his passions of fishing, hunting, and working with his hands.

George is survived by his wife of 65 years; his son Scott; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister Mary Dean Ziebart. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Gordon.
