Obituary

Janice Bruschera Lindner
July 16, 1952 - January 29, 2018

Janice (Jan) Bruschera Lindner passed away unexpectedly in her home in the early hours of January 29th . She was 65 years young. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Jan grew up helping with her family’s business through high school. She graduated from Chico State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development. Shortly after completing her degree she moved to Colorado. While living in Denver, Colorado she met her husband Michael Lindner and they were married in California on August 6, 1978, and eventually settled in Portland, Oregon. After the birth of their daughter, Jennifer in January 1982, they moved to El Cerrito, California. Her son, Jonathan was born in November of 1984 in Berkeley, California, at the same hospital of her own birth. She worked for many years at St. Jerome Catholic School as an educational assistant.

Jan moved to Bend, Oregon with her family in the summer of 1995. She became employed with the Bend/La Pine School District as a substitute educational assistant. After several years of being a substitute she began work at Bend High School in the district’s print shop. After many years in the print shop she returned to subbing and worked most often in the special education and life skills programs throughout the district. She continued to sub throughout the years because of her passion for teaching young children and she especially enjoyed teaching children to read.

Jan could always be found with knitting needles in her hands and was exceptionally talented at her craft. She blessed many families with her special baby car-seat blanket. In addition to knitting, Jan loved reading, playing Bunco, and water aerobics. She was active in many groups, including Book Club and Bunco, and cherished her friendships within these groups. Jan enjoyed visiting her grandchildren and exploring the different states they’ve resided in. She loved her grandchildren beyond measure.

Jan is survived by her husband, Michael Lindner of Bend, OR; her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Mary Bruschera of El Cerrito, CA; her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Brendan Hochstein of Springfield, VA; her son, Jonathan Lindner of Bend, OR; her five grandchildren, Chase, Ryan, Parker, Lillian and Ava Hochstein; and her fur-baby, Cagney the Chocolate Lab. She is predeceased by her parents, James and LaVonne Bruschera.

There will be a funeral mass held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 2450 NE 27th St. Bend, Oregon. Open viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and mass to follow at 11 a.m. Reception and Celebration of Life to follow mass. Private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the Humane Society of Central Oregon or the SMART program (Start Making a Reader Today).
