Obituary

Kenn passed away in the early morning of November 9, 2016 at Hospice House in Bend Oregon. His daughter Martha was at his side.

Kenn was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Carl H and Grace Carlson. He met his future wife, Ethelee Malone, in high school and they were married in June, 1949. They moved to New Jersey where their children were born and moved to Colorado in 1965.

Kenn was a very gifted, humble person and talented in many ways but enjoyed working with his hands the most. As a young boy, he always wanted to discover how things worked and took clocks, motors, engines etc., apart then reassembled them. He worked for DeVry Camera Company in Chicago and learned how to build cameras. In New Jersey, he worked for Reaction Motors, the pioneer of the rocket industry doing their instrumentation. He was vice-president of Lloyd Engineering in New Jersey, a metal fabrication business that made everything from vacuum cleaners for airport runways to Homelite Go-Carts doing everything from estimating and ordering materials to hiring and firing. His last business venture was building, owning and operating a small dealership for Volvo and foreign car service center in Colorado.

Kenn designed and created complex projects for clients in his own machine shop. He was a master at organizing, a problem solver and machinist, who could design and build anything requested.

Ken loved to visit with neighbors, family and friends, and had a great sense of humor. He has always loved his dogs: Basset Hounds Rosie and Mindy were the most recent ones here in Bend. He enjoyed classic cars, classical music and was a Civil War buff. Kenn enjoyed working with high school students teaching gun safety with the NRA group in Bend for several years. Kenn loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing in Ontario Canada and hunting in Colorado. Vacations were spent camping across the western United States and Canada. One of his favorite trips was to Alaska.

He is survived by his wife, Ethelee, and daughters Donna Thompson (husband Jon), Holly Heaton, Martha Harris (husband Phil), grandsons Brian, Ben, David and Andrew, Chris and Sayre, ten great-grandchildren, sister in law Jean Carlson, niece Jan Babinec, nephews David and Kenny.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald, and sons, Jeff and Bruce.

A memorial service will be help on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Partners in Care in Bend.

He will be laid to rest with his son Bruce in Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs, Colorado at a later date.

We love him so very much and he leaves us with many wonderful memories.

Memorial donations may be made to the Bend Humane Society of Central Oregon/SPCA, 61170 SE 27th St., Bend, OR 97702
