Obituary

Marie Mason, age 93, long time resident of Springville, Utah and for the past 6 years in Bend, Oregon, died June 7, 2018 She was in the loving hands of Bend Partners in Care hospice and her daughter in law, Sherri Mason.
Born Jan 6, 1925 in Aurora, Utah to Amelia Jarman and Joseph Ford. In 1943 she was on the way to Florida to work and marry another man and met James H Mason, a US Navy sailor, on a train. They were married 2 weeks later and enjoyed 36 years of marriage until his death in 1979.
Marie was always active as a volunteer, starting as President of the PTA in La Jolla, Ca in 1954. She was a 4-H leader and supervisor in Springville for many years, including a leader of a boys 4-H group. She & Jim spent many summers, as their boys were growing up, with Little League and Pony League baseball, she as a scorekeeper.
She joined the American Legion in 1970 and was a member since that time. She & Jim were also very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, she in the Ladies Auxiliary. Marie served as Utah State President 1971-72, National Council from 1977-79 and was National Historian 1979-80.
She was also actively involved in PEO for several years and enjoyed that sisterhood.
She was a member of the Springville Presbyterian Church for 48 years and held the positions of Deacon & Elder.
For many years she was a member of the Art City Days planning committee and was in charge of crafts for those years.
She was a volunteer during the Salt Lake Olympics working at the host hotel.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Luckart, in 2012. She is survived by her two sons, Mike in Bend, Oregon and Owen in Cougar, Wa. She had 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Springville Presbyterian church on August 28 at 2:00, followed by her internment at Springville Evergreen Cemetary. Rev. George Lower officiating.
