Charles John Carson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, age 80, died November 27, 2015, in Bend, Oregon. The cause of death was complications from Parkinson's disease.

Charles was born February 27, 1935, in his parents' farmhouse near Eskridge, Kansas. He graduated from Eskridge High School, Sterling College (Sterling, Kansas), and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1960 and served in the ministry for over 40 years.

Rev. Carson served churches in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, and Clifton, Pittsburg, and Chanute, Kansas. He served as a Navy chaplain on board the USS Niagara Falls during the Vietnam War era. He was honored to serve as moderator of both the Presbytery of Northern Kansas and the John Calvin Presbytery. He continued his pastoral duties as a volunteer following retirement.

Charles was active in community service organizations throughout his life, including the Rotary and Lions Clubs, and was the recipient of the Rotary Lifetime Achievement Award.

Charles married Joan Anderson on June 18, 1960; she survives. Other survivors include his three children: Cathy Layng (Mark) of Beijing, China; Marlis Carson of Washington, D.C.; Kenneth Carson of Bend, Oregon; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Lois Whaley of Topeka, Kansas; and a brother, Roy, of Chandler, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Bernice Carson of Eskridge, Kansas; a brother, Ted; and a sister, Beverly Jinks.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Topeka, Kansas, on Saturday, January 9, at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sterling College Sterling Fund,
