Dorothy Jean Taravella

December 10, 1927 - July 24, 2020
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas
Resided in La Pine, Oregon

Dorothy Jean Taravella peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on July 24, 2020, at her home in LaPine, Oregon. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Dorothy, our angel mother, was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, December 10, 1927, to Russell and Cecil Myers. She lost her dad when she was just 8 years old when he was run over by his tractor on their family farm. Her mom raised her along with her five siblings alone in Arkansas. She graduated from Geyer Springs High School and moved to San Diego, California, with her mom to work during WWII in her early 20s and eventually met and married Bill Read. Their son, Alan, was born in 1956, and in 1962, their daughter, Sandra, was born when Dorothy and Bill were going through a divorce.
In 1963, she met Russell Taravella, while playing in a bowling league in Southern California. The sport they both loved brought them together, and they were married in 1964, and had their daughter Michelle in 1965. Russell and Dorothy raised all three children in Norwalk, California.
She worked for Kroger as a Keypunch Operator in her adult life and retired early, due to health reasons. They moved to LaPine, Oregon, in 1986, after they both retired. Our dad Russ died in 2010. Dorothy was confined to a wheelchair when she was in her 70s, due to complications with Parkinson's Disease, but she was able to stay in her home until she died, thanks to her son Alan taking care of her for many years.
Dorothy is survived by her son Alan; daughters, Sandra and Michelle; sons-in-law, Diego and Steve; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Ashley, Rebecca, Vanessa, and AJ; and four great-grandchildren, Josh, Kiera, Gavin, and Maverick.
Her family remembers her as a gentle, patient, angelic woman who worked hard and loved and sacrificed for her family. We know we will reunite with her again in heaven and know she is reunited with Russ and her loving family in heaven.
A small graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 am at the LaPine Cemetery.
