Hildy Wolfe, originally of Kelso, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015 in Redmond at the age of 89.

Hildy was born on August 8, 1926, in Kelso, Washington to John and Hilda (Nayha) Vahala. There she grew up with three brothers and four sisters, and then in 1944 graduated from Kelso High School. In 1950 she married Max K. Wolfe in Longview. Later, in 1957, Hildy joined the U.S. Navy and served for five years as a nurse, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. She was stationed at an air base in the Philippines and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Hildy continued her education, receiving her certification as a Registered Nurse from Linnfield, and then received her Bachelor's Degree in Public Health from the University of Washington in 1966. She continued her nursing career for many years at several locations: Good Samaritan Hospital, Red Cross (Polio Nursing in Des Moines, ID), and the Veterans Hospital in both Portland and Vancouver. Hildy loved crafts and spending time with her family. She was like a 2nd mother to many of her nieces and nephews.

Hildy is survived by three sisters, Minerva Christison of Longview, WA, Ann Westendorf of Seattle, WA, and Toini Niemi of Portland, OR; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; one sister, Bertha Halvorson; and three brothers, Donald, Ernest and Reino Vahala.
