Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania
Resided in Ketchum, Idaho

John C Dovey (J.C.), 73, of Ketchum Idaho, died in his sleep on Tuesday September 4th. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Bughman Dovey, in 1998. J.C. is survived by his two sons, Marcus Dovey and Jay Dovey, and many loving friends and extended family.

J.C. was born to John Marcus and Jeanne Burd Dovey in Johnstown, PA in 1945. He went to the Holderness School in Plymouth, NH and then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. He lived most of his life in Rector, PA pursuing his passions of shooting, skiing, hunting, flying airplanes, and socializing with his friends. An avid sailor, he enjoyed many days on his sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay, sailing with friends and family. After the passing of his wife in 1998, J.C. moved to Sun Valley, ID where he continued to shoot and ski until his death.

J.C. was a man of many professions throughout his life: airplane pilot, owner of Sportspal Canoes, ski race coach, photographer, stock broker, salesman, and manager of the Sun Valley Gun Club, just to name a few.
J.C. will be lovingly remembered by his sons as the one who inspired our own love of shooting, sailing, hunting, and skiing.
A memorial service will be held in late October in Rector PA, with details to be announced soon.

In lieu of flowers, please raise a glass and toast his memory the next time you are out with friends and family, tell a funny story about J.C. and enjoy your time with those you love.
