Obituary

Ruth Adelaide Cook (Crouch), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 30, 2019, in Bend, OR.

Ruth was born in Osceola, Arkansas, and spent most of her early years in Milwaukee, WI. She used to share stories about roller skating with strap-on metal skates on the city sidewalks, matching sweater sets in a rainbow of colors, and exploits with her sisters. Ruth was married for over 65 years to Lloyd Cook. They had an interesting and full life together, from city life in Milwaukee to dairy farming in Wisconsin. They lived for 5 years in Alaska, and spent many years traveling in motel management. Ruth was a lifetime member of the Church of the Nazarene, and a member of Sisters Church of the Nazarene for 11 years.

Ruth was a fabulous handcrafter. She made each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren a one-of-a-kind afghan to commemorate their births. She was an accomplished musician, playing piano, accordion, organ, and guitar, and had a beautiful voice. Ruth also enjoyed reading and traveling. Her unexpected sense of humor was a gift to her children.

Ruth's first job was as a private secretary for a Salvation Army colonel in Milwaukee. Among other pursuits, she worked as a long-distance telephone operator and for US Customs in Anchorage, was a dairy farmer for 15 years in total, and held many volunteer roles in the church, from playing the piano to missionary society work.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Lloyd Cook; children Roger (Kerry) Cook of Redmond, OR, Louise (Tom) Vickery of Eau Claire, WI, David (Ronnie) Cook of Momence, IL, Irene Flack of Santa Rosa, CA, and Clayton (Paula) Cook of Santa Rosa, CA; as well as 13 grandchildren; 22 1/2 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyman and Jesse Corey Crouch, and siblings Zetha, Nyra and Paul.
