Shirley Marie Olafson of La Pine passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017, at the age of 80. A Memorial Service will be held in the Spring.

Shirley was born in East Chicago, Indiana on November 14, 1936 to James and Margaret (Bishop) Hobaugh. During Shirley's elementary school years, the family loaded everything they had, and drove to their new home in Portland, Oregon. While in High School she worked at Fowlers Drug Store, and then White Stag in downtown Portland. Shirley graduated from Washington High School. On April 4, 1959, she married Morris "Ole" Clifford Olafson in Portland, Oregon. They were blessed with two children, a son and a daughter.

In 1968, the family moved to Eugene where Shirley was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses, greeted new Eugene residents as a member of the Welcome Wagon, volunteered at Sacred Heart Hospital, and with Bluebirds. After Ole retired in 1991, he and Shirley moved to La Pine, a place they and family had always enjoyed camping and fishing. Shirley loved to play golf, bridge, pinochle, and really loved spending time with her family. She was a member of High Lakes Christian Church in La Pine. Shirley was a wonderful mother and good friend that will be sorely missed.

Shirley is survived by her son, John Olafson of Redmond, OR; daughter, Margaret (husband Hugh) Boyd of Portland, OR; and two grandchildren, Michelle & Brittany Olafson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, four brothers, and her parents.
